The rationale for outsourcing – or not for outsourcing – is likewise unique to each enterprise and its business environment. Some outsourcing involves short-term “out-tasking.” Other cases involve long-term, “strategic” alliances covering a broad range of an enterprise’s business processes. Some outsourcing requires at least 6 to 12 months of planning, such as for complex processes like computer technology, engineering, or manufacturing. Other outsourcing deals, such as janitorial services, building maintenance and messenger services, can be resolved in a matter of days or weeks.
